Eric Claus, (President
& CEO, The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co., Inc.) proudly
presented a check for $230,189 for The Muscular Dystrophy
Association (MDA) to Peter Kearney and his son Kevin Kearney,
a family served by MDA. 
This remarkable donation was raised at our stores - A&P,
Food Emporium, Super Fresh, Farmer Jack, Waldbaum's, Sav-A-Center
and Food Basics - during the "Shamrocks Against Dystrophy"
campaign, which ran from Sunday, February 26th through
Saturday, March 18th.
While many of our banners have participated in the "Shamrocks
Against Dystrophy" campaign for as many as 20 years or
more, this was the first year that they all worked together
for the cause. MDA greatly appreciated this generous donation
by our customers, as well as the tremendous efforts of
our associates to coordinate and solicit the donations.
